2012 was a wake up call to my white majority brothers and sisters. I am assuredly going out on the proverbial limb here as I write on. Please take note that I intend to offend no one but to encourage my brothers and sisters as we move to the close of our first decade in the 21st century. God knows, every race has had its own share of what i call, family unit difficulty.

Given the films genre, it begins with the main characters playing out their interactions in typical movie fashion, all of which has unfortunately become current tradition regarding family i.e., failed relationships (marriages specifically),tormented children, and step family drama. This has even become the norm in everyday society. Family, that ain't good. We as believers have all but forgotten that this thing called marriage is a marathon and that love is sacrifice. Outside of physical and verbal abuse of any sort; you just don't walk away. (Bible ref.,"...let no man put asunder...") or (...it is better not to vow a vow...").

Theory (dilemma): Dad is written off as a loser who's lost touch (communication) with his children, his ex-wife, and isn't exactly having tea with her new husband (replacement). The children are way too young to understand that mommy and daddy "couldn't make it work". Dads primary remaining attachment to the family is the children. Through them he still talks vs. communicates with his ex-wife. She still refers to him as the "father of her children" (covenant bearing implications) reserving a place for him in her heart. His son loves him but his confidence in his father is displaced. His daughter is suffering from insecurities due to instability. Both children's feelings about their father and his rightful place in their lives are mixed and way too confusing to deal with. Intern, they act out i.e. disrespect and bed wetting, respectfully.

Theory (conclusion):Dad gets "a word" (Woody Harrelson) and decides to go after his family with a vengeance. He triumphs, defeating every insurmountable obstacle in order to re-establish his place in the hearts of HIS FAMILY. In the midst of this fight, the original couple manages to spend some quality interaction communicating. His wife subsequently reveals that she loves her new husband enough vs. being in-love with what they'd begun. The replacement dad is eventually removed as he gets chewed up in the wheels of forward progress- so to speak. Forward we go. The original family unit proceeds to board of all things.... an ark. That's not all. This ark is taking them to Africa, yes Africa, which is where I believe they reconcile and reconnect with the roots of all humanity. As a bonus, the final president was of African descent. By no means, do I prescribe to the teachings of mysticism but that sounds like a 360 degree circle if you ask me.
